Car insurance is boring, plain and simple. Choosing a car insurance policy provides about the same amount of excitement as filling in your tax return – something you have no desire to do but have to.
And to make matters worse, with rising food prices and a drifting economy, many of us are feeling quite a pinch. So any way we can the odd penny is very welcome. The question here is what's the cheapest car insurance policy out there, and how can you get it?
When buying a car insurance policy, you can assume that the insurer is most interested in matters relating to the car and to your driving skills. He will definitely need to know the type and model and engine capacity of the car and its year of manufacture, and as far as you are concerned, how long you have been driving, your age, whether you've had any motoring convictions, how many years of no claims bonuses you've achieved. You ask for a car insurance quotation and they ask a lot of highly personal questions about you and your lifestyle.
They are not collecting all this information because they want to know who their customers are. They're using this information to calculate your premiums, based on statistics which show the likelihood that a person in your situation will be claiming on the policy. And the greater the risk is that you'll claim on the policy, the higher your premiums will be.
So it is very difficult to point to a single insurer and say: they're offering the best deal at the moment. The cheapest deal for you will always depend on your individual circumstances and situation, as well as the car you drive and your driving record.
These are some of the factors which affect the cost of your car insurance. For example, does being married make a policy more or less expensive? If you park your car in a garage, will you pay less? Can female drivers really get cheaper insurance?
Do men and women pay the same premiums? Despite all the statistics demonstrating that, overall, women are safer drivers and despite all the female-driver-only insurers out there which claim to offer fantastic deals to female drivers, the answer, surprisingly, is that a man will pay less.
Does location affect price? The answer is yes. A quiet place outside town will save money. Does parking the car in a garage instead of on the street outside your home save money? The answer is yes.
Do your homework and you will save money on car insurance.
